Ditch Textures

Whenever I am out of the office I'm always on the lookout for ideas for the game and as the last post was all about water in ditches, I have decided to follow up with another post regarding the texturing of these. I was away at Center Parcs in the UK with the family over Easter and whilst walking to the swimming pool I stumbled across some great photo opportunities for textures.

I'll likely be using these on the UK rally for the ditches on the side of the road, here are the raw images as taken by my with my mobile phone.

A lot of work then goes into modification of these to make them game ready, they need to be setup to tile properly as you cannot simply use the textures direct from a photo.

I generally bring them into Photoshop and create layers for the side grassy parts, and then use the "offset" filter to move the non tiled parts to the centre. From here you can use the stamp tool to make the central parts look neat and tiled, and you then have a fully tiled texture.

And the in game result is below. Note this is literally the first time I've seen it in game and I'll probably be adding a detail texture to it to make it look more HD. Now to enjoy the rest of the Easter weekend away from the computer.
